Meath County Council approached Piercom with the explicit need for a Document Management System. Any proposed solution had to take into consideration multiple user requirements, file security, document volume and system access. The system was rolled out to 25 County Councils and a number of web services integrated.  GIS systems integrated for planning using dejavu software is one example of web service integration.

The solution, as developed by Piercom enables the Councils to scan in paper based documents and electronically accept documentation from a variety of sources such as e mail, word documents, spread sheets etc. and to index them into the system as deemed appropriate.

Piercom built the solution with an eye to future requirements and a knowledge that the system's capacity to take increased volumes of documentation over a given period needed to be flexible and easily expanded.

Password access is built into the management hub and is presently set up for 300 users, with an expanded public user future initiative taken into consideration. The system will also accept access from mobile handheld devices.

Some of the key elements of the system are outlined below:

  • Fast search and retrieval
  • Public access in the future
  • 300 initial users
  • 750,000 initial documents
  • 750,000 new documents per year
  • Total Capacity: 10 M+ Documents
  • Security & Robustness
  • Future formats & tools
  • Mobile access handheld devices
  • Integrated with Sharepoint and next generation developed in Silverlight technology to acomodate web services.
